Erick Miyares is a senior cyber threat subject matter expert on the Behavioral Threat Analysis Center (BTAC) team member at the Defense Insider Threat Management and Analysis Center (DITMAC). He is a retired Special Operations and Intelligence professional with 29 years of combined experience in the United States Army and Marine Corps. For 23 years, he served in various leadership and strategic positions and operational assignments within the United States Special Operations community. He has extensive experience in conducting intelligence and cyberspace operations.
Erick is a Ph.D. candidate in cyberpsychology with a research focus on cyber operator's psychological, cognitive, and occupational burnout experiences. Additionally, he is researching cyberpsychology to support counter-insider threat efforts. By analyzing the online behaviors contributing to insider threats, his research aims to enhance the understanding of how digital environments influence individuals. This interdisciplinary approach integrates insights from cyberpsychology with robust cyber behavioral analysis and cybersecurity measures, providing comprehensive strategies to detect, deter, and mitigate insider threats. He holds a master's in cybersecurity, and is a Pat Tillman Scholar, and National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) fellow.
